Fact-Checking Policy

Last updated: June 26, 2026

AZ Travel Tips is committed to publishing accurate, verifiable travel information. This policy outlines how we verify facts before and after publication.

What we verify

  • Drive times, distances, and route directions (cross-checked with official maps).
  • Permit requirements, fees, and lottery dates (verified with the issuing agency).
  • Park hours, seasonal closures, and contact information.
  • Historical facts, dates, and statistics (verified against primary sources).
  • Business names, addresses, and operating hours (verified within 30 days of publication).
  • Scientific or environmental claims (cited to peer-reviewed or agency sources).

Our verification process

  1. The author drafts the guide based on first-hand experience and primary research.
  2. An editor reviews every factual claim and flags anything requiring a source.
  3. Where sources exist, links are added in-line or in the reference section.
  4. Pre-publication, the article is checked against current official information for any time-sensitive details (closures, permits, road status).
  5. Post-publication, articles are re-verified on a rolling schedule — at minimum annually, and immediately when readers report changes.

Sources we trust

  • National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, and Bureau of Land Management.
  • Arizona State Parks & Trails.
  • Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) for road status.
  • Official tribal government websites for tribal lands (e.g., Havasupai, Navajo Nation).
  • University and museum publications for historical and ecological context.

Sources we do not cite as authorities

  • Other travel blogs.
  • Crowd-sourced wikis without editorial oversight.
  • Promotional content from tour operators or chambers of commerce.
